Wine Wednesday - #WW

It is a great Wine Wednesday here at Wine&Design!

Today, I am featuring one of my favorite, local, Santa Barbara County producers -- Longoria Winery. More specifically, the 2011 Longoria Fe Ciaga Pinot Noir.

Rick Longoria, Winemaker and Owner of Longoria wines, also happens to be my husband's first mentor in the wine industry, it began with an 8th grade science project. Wine writer/reviewer/blogger, Richard Jennings recently wrote an article featuring my husband and Rick Longoria for Huffington Post. Read about it here - More Santa Barbara Deliciousness: Longoria and Rusack "Two more Santa Barbara County producers I visited last month whose wines greatly impressed me possess winemakers who are highly respected by their peers. Both winemakers -- Longoria's Richard Longoria and Rusack's Steven Gerbac -- are modest, low key, high achievers who constantly experiment, searching for ways to improve their already excellent wines. As it happens, Longoria and Gerbac's careers intersected long ago: Gerbac's eighth grade science project involved studying malolactic fermentation with Longoria."

Needless to say, whether we are at a restaurant, or our local wine shop, Longoria is another one of our go to wines, as it never disappoints.

My Tasting Notes:

Beautiful garnet tones. Aromas of red berries, wild strawberry, rhubarb, and earthy notes. This wine is full bodied and exudes flavors of bright juicy pomegranate, hard candy, with soft dry tannins on the finish. The wine became even more complex after some time in the glass, which is always a nice surprise.

Pinot Noir can be a very versatile wine, typically it is a lighter wine, which can be paired with many foods, and will leave you asking for another glass. Finding a bottle of balanced, elegant, amazing Pinot Noir is not always an easy task - we picked this bottle up at Longoria's Tasting Room in Los Olivos, CA - you should defintely give it a try!

Cheers!
