Wine Wednesday - Journey to Wine

I grew up in a small town in northern California. While I knew what wine was, mostly from my First Holy Communion, I was never really exposed to it growing up. My parents did not drink the liquid of the gods, so it was never really a part of my life.

Fast forward to my college hunting days, still living in my wine-less world, I came across Sonoma State. Not too far from home, and boasting a beautiful campus, I knew this was the place for me. Not to mention, how great it was that I could still visit home for a home cooked meal or two by my mom. I applied was accepted, and I had found my new college home at Sonoma State in the little town of Rohnert Park. Funny enough Sonoma State is not in the town of Sonoma, but thankfully close enough to all the winery happenings around.

After deciding to major in Business with a Marketing concentration, I was looking at the class schedules trying to figure out what courses to take. During this search I stumbled upon a wine appreciation course, which was located within the Wine Marketing section - WHAT - Wine Marketing? I had no idea such a thing existed, but I was intrigued, and I was known to be drawn to things I had never heard of, and lastly, it sounded fun so I signed up! Little did I know that this small choice back then would completely change my life path.

So there you have it, my first journey into wine. I went down the path, and have not turned back, and I am excited for whats to come in the future. Now, living in Santa Barbara County (my third wine country location) I couldn’t be happier! The best part about this industry is that once you are in the circle, you never want to leave. We call it being bitten by the wine bug or the like. Working amongst so many passionate people is one of the reasons I have now been in this industry for over 13 years, and I hope there are many more to come.

Cheers,

- L
